Waste Diversion

At CA Frost, the Green Team is committed to reducing waste and promoting sustainability through several ongoing waste diversion efforts. We participate in the following programs and are always looking for “waste warriors” to join us in making a positive environmental impact! Access guides for each of these programs below.

  • TerraCycle: We partner with TerraCycle to collect and recycle hard-to-recycle items such as chip bags, snack wrappers, and other non-traditional recyclables. TerraCycle turns these items into new products, helping to keep waste out of landfills.
  • NexTrex: Through NexTrex, we collect plastic film materials like grocery bags, bubble wrap, and bread bags. If we collect 1,000 lbs. of these materials, we can earn a composite bench made from recycled plastics, benefiting both our school and the environment.
  • Paper Gator: This program allows us to recycle paper products, such as newspapers, magazines, and junk mail. Not only does this divert waste from landfills, but we also receive funds based on the volume of paper we collect, which supports school programs.
  • Trick or Trash: Every Halloween, we participate in Trick or Trash, a program designed to recycle candy wrappers. By collecting these wrappers, we prevent plastic waste from adding to the holiday’s environmental footprint.
  • Plastic-Free Lunch Day & Waste Audit: We also participate in Plastic-Free Lunch Day, a national effort to reduce single-use plastics in school lunches. Before the event, we conduct a waste audit to track our current waste levels, which allows us to measure the impact of reducing plastic waste during this initiative.

We’re always looking for dedicated volunteers to help with these programs and to encourage more students, families, and staff to get involved. Become a waste warrior and join us in making a greener, cleaner community!
